AWARE
Prevention & Advocacy
Mental health is paramount to personal well-being, family relationships, and successful contributions to society. It is related to the development of societies and countries. Mental, neurological, and substance use disorders are highly prevalent and burdensome worldwide. The violations of human rights directed towards people with these disorders compound the problem.
AWARE makes a case for enhancing the commitment of the government, NGOs, private organizations, civil society, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to change policy, practice and service delivery systems to ensure mental health needs and concerns receive the level of priority necessary to reduce the burden associated with mental and substance use disorders. There should be no more excuses for marginalizing funding and delivery of mental health services. OBJECTIVES:
|
AWARE has adopted five strategies that have been identified to be effective in prevention of mental health problems worldwide. These are:
1. Teaching prevention in schools 2. Reaching youths outside school 3. Reaching high risk groups 4. Building family bonds 5. Empowering communities |
